Invitation to Express Interest in Participating in the Small-Scale Mining Fund 2025
The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) hereby invites applications in terms of Section 12(1) of the Mineral and Petroleum Resources Development Act (MPRDA), 2002.
Small-Scale Mining Fund
The government’s Small-Scale Mining Fund provides targeted financial assistance to support small-scale miners in two key categories: Financial Provision for Rehabilitation Guarantees and Capital Equipment & Operational Expenditure.
Funding Assessment Criteria
- Applicants must hold a valid Mining Permit.
- Applications for financial provision (NEMA) must include a signed letter from the Regional Manager.
- A full costing aligned with the Technical & Financial Competency Table is required.
- Applicants must demonstrate transformation alignment in ownership and procurement.
- Priority for rural and economically depressed areas, youth, women & persons with disabilities.
- Projects must create jobs and support socio-economic development.
- A detailed business plan is required.
- Capital equipment applications must include Letters of Intent.
- Applications must be hand-delivered (three copies).
- Cooperatives & community-owned projects encouraged.
- Only South African citizens qualify.

Funding is limited. Applications close on 15 December 2025.
If no response is received within three months, the application was unsuccessful.

About Small-Scale Mining
The Small-Scale Mining Directorate promotes sustainable economic development through enterprise support for emerging miners, especially in rural and peri-urban areas.
The Directorate assists with mining permits, business plans, markets, compliance, and environmental stewardship—ensuring responsible and sustainable operations.
The Directorate offers continuous technical guidance, training, and mentorship to empower small-scale miners with the skills required for efficient and responsible mining.
Assistance is provided to ensure full compliance with the MPRDA and NEMA, including environmental best practices.
The Directorate connects SMMEs to funding, investors, and procurement opportunities— supporting long-term sustainability.
