The Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Mr Gwede Mantashe, will on Friday, 14 August 2026, undertake a community outreach programme in his parliamentary constituency of Dannhauser, KwaZulu-Natal, where he will hand over 200 gas handy cookers and cylinders to community members.
The support, provided through Gold Fields, forms part of the Minister’s outreach programme and is intended to assist vulnerable households during the winter season. It also reflects the importance of partnerships between government and the mining sector in contributing to the development and wellbeing of communities.
The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) has noted reports of an incident involving the deaths of illegal miners in Nkaneng, Rustenburg, in the North West Province, on 10 August 2026.
The Department extends its deepest condolences to the families, friends and communities affected by this tragic incident. The loss of life is deeply regrettable, and the DMPR recognises the serious impact such events have on affected communities.
The Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources hereby announces the adjustment of fuel prices based on current local and international factors with effect from the 5th of August 2026. South Africa’s fuel prices are adjusted monthly, informed by international and local factors. International factors include the fact that South Africa imports both crude oil and finished products at a price set at the international level, including importation costs, e.g., shipping costs.
