Exploring Opportunities for Junior Miners

The Department of Mineral and Petroleum Resources (DMPR) is facilitating full time bursaries for the academic year 2025. The bursary targets eligible South African scholars from disadvantaged backgrounds currently doing or having completed grade 12, up to age 35. The bursary supports fields aligned with mining and energy.

The Department of Mineral Resources and Energy (DMRE) offers structured internship opportunities designed to equip graduates with practical work experience in the mining and energy sectors.

Minimum Requirements:
  • South African citizenship.
  • Completed qualification (NQF Level 6–8).
  • Related to mining, minerals, energy, engineering, ICT, or admin.
  • Must be unemployed.
  • No prior participation in government internships.
What the Internship Offers:
  • 12-month full-time placement.
  • Mentorship from specialists.
  • Technical and admin exposure.
  • Monthly stipend.

The Learnership Programme provides structured learning combined with practical workplace training aimed at empowering youth and unemployed individuals seeking foundational skills in mining and energy.

Minimum Requirements:
  • South African citizenship.
  • Grade 12 or equivalent.
  • Interest in mining/energy careers.
  • Must be unemployed.
  • Ages 18–35 preferred.
Programme Benefits:
  • 12–24 months structured learning.
  • Practical training at accredited workplaces.
  • Monthly stipend.
  • NQF Level 2–4 qualification.
