The Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Mr Gwede Mantashe, will on Friday, 14 August 2026, undertake a community outreach programme in his parliamentary constituency of Dannhauser, KwaZulu-Natal, where he will hand over 200 gas handy cookers and cylinders to community members.
The support, provided through Gold Fields, forms part of the Minister’s outreach programme and is intended to assist vulnerable households during the winter season. It also reflects the importance of partnerships between government and the mining sector in contributing to the development and wellbeing of communities.
“Mining must be about more than extracting minerals. It must also contribute to the dignity, resilience and development of communities. This support is an example of what can be achieved when government and the mining sector work together to respond to the practical needs of our people,” said Minister Mantashe. The outreach builds on the Minister’s previous engagement with elderly residents in the area, where food and essential parcels were distributed.
