The Minister of Mineral and Petroleum Resources, Mr Gwede Mantashe, will officially
open Exxaro Resources’ expanded Matla Mine 1 operations in Mpumalanga, marking a
significant milestone in advancing South Africa’s energy security and extending the life of
mine.
The Minister has consistently highlighted the important role of coal in ensuring energy
security, sustaining jobs, and driving economic growth, while supporting initiatives that
extend the life of mines and strengthen the country’s energy supply capacity.
